Comments submitted to EPA on AFO regulations
August 18, 2025

Snake River Waterkeeper joined EarthJustice and a long list of advocacy groups in submitting comments to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), urging the EPA to finalize its draft Air Emissions Estimating Methodologies for Animal Feeding Operations — a rule that would help regulate toxic air pollution caused by animal feeding operations (AFOs).
AFOs are leading sources of dangerous air pollution, including ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, particulate matter, and volatile organic compounds. Air pollution from AFOs can cause serious health problems or even death for workers and people living nearby. Nonetheless, EPA has delayed action to control this pollution for at least two decades.
