Bringing clean water to Uganda.

February 20, 2026

In February, SRW’s executive director traveled to Uganda to participate in a project bringing clean water to rural communities that previously lacked access to safe drinking water.

For this trip, SRW teamed up with Mountain True from North Carolina, along with the Waterkeepers that steward the Yoto River, Lake Kyogo and Lake Victoria. We worked together to:

  • Build two drinking water wells in rural Uganda
  • Install water filters in schools, maternity wards and hospitals
  • Facilitate the cleanup of the Lake Victoria shoreline

This work is part of the Clean Water for Africa Projectwhich serves communities in Togo, Kenya and Uganda. These ongoing projects are bringing clean water to thousands of families who once had no choice but to drink from contaminated streams.

Traveling throughout Uganda along the Nile headwaters and Lake Uganda was humbling and instructive for our group — both in terms of the reach of our expanded program work and furthering the mission of the Waterkeeper Alliance. Buck said of his time there, “Meeting and helping the kind and welcoming people of rural Uganda was a true honor, and an experience I will never forget.”

Our deepest thanks to the generous donors who helped make this critical project a reality. Your support is having a lasting and life-saving impact on these communities.
